Sally the Boxer-Pit Mix | Ann Arbor, MI Pet Photography

Getting your first dog or cat by yourself is often like a rite of passage to adulthood. For the first time, you’re taking care of something other than yourself. And with that, comes a whole slew of responsibilities and lessons (chewed up shoes, potty accidents, torn up couches, earlier wake up calls than desired), but the unconditional love and faithful companionship more than outweighs any of the “work” that goes into it.

Sally is Marie’s first dog, that she adopted when she was in college and living in an apartment with her boyfriend. Sally was an adult pup when she was adopted from the Michigan Humane Society, so with that, and her graying face, comes the bittersweet reminder that time together is short.

Described as a quiet, loyal, super cuddly, loving best friend that “woke something up in her soul”, Marie was inspired to document this special time together with her best friend. The love and bond that they share, which words can’t describe, can simply be seen in the images below.

Lilee the Pug | Michigan Dog Photographer

Lilee is a 14 year old pug, who was diagnosed with a central nervous system disorder that has left her with a permanent head tilt, and serious disorientation. Despite going to numerous vet appointments and putting her on a long series of antibiotics (they thought it might’ve been an ear infection), they were unable to ever fully resolve the issue. Based on a recent update from her owner, Katie, this past January, Lilee is now off the antibiotics. She’s doing okay but doesn’t have much balance or energy left, which makes me incredibly sad to hear.

As I write this blog entry, I’m so thankful we were able to create some beautiful images of Lilee with her incredibly patient and loving hoo-mans during the time we did. Despite her medical issue, I could still feel and see Lilee’s curious and spunky self shine through. When Katie was booking her session with me, one of her family members asked her if she was sure she wanted to get photos of Lilee in her current state. She responded that she still wanted photos of Lilee no matter what– because she wanted memories of Lilee and how she made her feel, and to document the fact that they’ve shared a wonderful 14 years together.

All I have to say is you can definitely feel the love and bond in each and everyone of these images. ❤️

Opie + Moose the Aussies | Northville, MI Pet Photography

Happy New Year! It’s 2019, 19 years since the infamous Y2K, and we’re all still here. Hard to believe we’re almost two decades past the millennium!

As I reflect back on my business these past 8 years, so much has changed, yet also some things haven’t. I recently started doing destination sessions in different cities across the country to incorporate my love of travel with what I do. Last year, I went to NYC, Chicago, Scottsdale, Traverse City, and Los Angeles. This year I’ll be adding Austin, TX; Denver, CO; Roanoke, VA and San Francisco, CA to the list (message me for more info!). For those who live in Michigan, don’t worry! My home base will always be Michigan, so I’ll still be here to do pet photoshoots throughout the year.

Despite each city being so different (and it’s definitely been interesting navigating each location and figuring out the best places to photograph. I can honestly say, I think I’ve seen more of each city than most people that live there. 😂), one common thread remains– an undeniable love for our furry friends. I’m so excited that I get to continue to do what I love and share images and stories of the beloved pets in our lives. Thank you so much for following me on my journey, and I hope I get to hear and photograph your pet love story one day, too!

For today’s post, I’d like to share with you images from two furry pups that I’m currently obsessed with; Opie + Moose (Follow them on Instagram @adventures_of_opieandmoose_. Jackie received a photo session from her sister as a birthday gift, which timed perfectly with the arrival of her second Aussie puppy, Moose. If I could sum up Opie + Moose’s relationship in a sentence, it’d be Moose–the annoying little sibling that wants to do everything his big brother is doing, haha. The expressions on Moose and Opie’s faces while they’re playing are classic.
