Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE SESSION?
I currently offer three types of sessions:  {My Pet} & Me, The Streets Session, Puppy/Kitten Session Package, and the Puppy Party Session Package. Please check out the SESSIONS page for more information on each session type.

WHERE DOES A SESSION TAKE PLACE?
For the {My Pet} & Me, the photoshoot takes place wherever you think your pet will be the most comfortable and content–whether it’s a park, downtown, beach, grassy meadows, or at home. I also have a list of my favorite places to shoot in case you need suggestions.

For The Streets session, the photoshoot takes place at a downtown Ann Arbor location of my choice.

HOW LONG DOES A SESSION LAST?
The {My Pet} & Me session typically lasts around two hours, although it can be longer or shorter. Sometimes I get all the images I need within an hour, other times it can take a little bit longer. Regardless, I keep shooting until I know I have some amazing images!

The Streets Session is a roughly 60-minute shoot.

WHAT IF I HAVE MORE THAN ONE PET THAT I WANT PHOTOGRAPHED?
Not a problem! For a small fee, you can add another pet to the session*. This includes additional shooting time and extra professionally edited images to order from. *Available for {My Pet} & Me Session only and the Puppy Party Package

SO WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENS DURING A SESSION?
A lot of me rolling around and army crawling on the ground and making weird noises while I try to get the perfect shot. But honestly, the session is a mixture of running around and playing with your pet to get those candid shots, and then a series of semi-posed shots to capture the more subtle interactions.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE WEATHER IS REALLY CRAPPY OUT?
If it’s rainy, and you’re feeling adventurous, we can put on our rain gear to try and capture the unexpected! Otherwise, when we schedule your session, we’ll plan a backup date and/or an alternative indoor location.

DO YOU ONLY PHOTOGRAPH DOGS AND CATS?
I photograph a lot of dogs and cats but am more than happy to take photos of any other types of pets you may have–in fact, I look forward to it! Shoot me an email and let me know what you have in mind.

MY PET IS REALLY SHY OR HYPER. I DON’T THINK IT WILL BE POSSIBLE TO GET GOOD SHOTS.
Typically with shy pets, I will spend some quiet time with them one on one at the beginning of the session so they can get used to me and become comfortable with my presence. Most warm up pretty quickly, and I find that a lot of treats and toys help! With hyper pets, I recommend taking them for a brisk walk or playing with them rightbefore the session to help expel some of that extra energy. By the time the session rolls around, they should be good to go. If your pet has any aggressive tendencies towards humans, I do not not recommend having a photo session.

DO I HAVE TO BE IN THE PHOTOS (For {My Pet} & Me Sessions)?
No, you don’t have to be, but I definitely recommend it! I have had clients that were reluctant to have their photos taken with their pets, but they couldn’t be more thrilled once they saw the finished images. In fact, these often turned out to be some of their most favorite images!
