I think this pretty much sums up why I do what I do. :)

Stella + Chex are Rachel’s two much adored furbabies. After following my work for some time, she decided it was time to get images of them and booked a session with me last Fall.

Chex was one day from being euthanized when he was rescued by Compass Dog Rescue in Royal Oak. 😱 I don’t even want to think about all the wonderful dogs that are euthanized because they can’t find good homes– Chex is seriously one of the sweetest and cutest dogs that I have ever met, and I’d take him in a heartbeat. Not much is known about his history, but he does have scars on his face and BBs stuck under his skin–probably from some a-hole shooting at him. How people can be so cruel, I can never understand!

Stella is Chex’s little sister, and who he absolutely adores. Stella joined the family after it was discovered that Chex had separation anxiety, so Rachel thought it would be best for him to have a companion. Once she joined, it was instant love!

Thanks so much Rachel for a wonderful session (and sticking through the cold weather!). It was so much fun working with you! :)

Brutus the Brussels Griffon | Royal Oak Pet Photography

After encountering my first Brussels Griffon (BG) four years ago at the Ann Arbor Art Fair, I’ve been dying to photograph one. They are seriously one of the most ridiculously looking dogs I’ve ever seen with their little Manchu beards. (By ridiculously looking, I mean ridiculously cute).

So when Erin contacted me about photographing her 9-month BG puppy, my face was like this: 😄😄😄

But then she shared she wanted to photograph Brutus in his Ohio State sweater, and I was like: 😬

Lol, OSU jokes aside, I decided to let that small detail slide. ;) #GOBLUE

Brutus didn’t disappoint the day of his session. He was more ADD than I expected, haha, but we still managed to capture some adorable shots of him with his many facial expressions. If you don’t break into a huge smile after looking at his images, I have to say there has to be something wrong with you, hah.

So random quirk that Brutus has: if you blow in his face, he tries to “eat” the air. Of course, we had to document this. The images of him doing this (towards the end of this entry) are fricking hilarious.

Thanks Erin for such an awesome shoot. Brutus is seriously an amazing dog. I can see why you love him so much. :)

Jack the Bichon and Miso the Papillon | Royal Oak Pet Photography

Once in a while, you have a session where everything is great; the clients are easygoing with beautiful smiles, and the pets know they’re way too cute, so they decide to ham it up for the camera. This was one of them.

Miso pretty much smiled the entire time, and Jack actually turned out to be a wonderful surprise. When I first chatted with Kathy, she warned me that Jack is wary around new strangers, and that it was best not to pet him. So imagine my astonishment, when he stole the show–head tilts, big smiles, and non-stop begging for treats; he easily won me over with his expressions, and I have to say, that I really am in love with how all of these images turned out.

Thanks Kathy for such an amazing session! I loved meeting Jack and Miso, and I hope you love their images, too!
